Last week I talked about a few of my favorite free places to visit in Abilene. Today I’m going to share a little more about one of those places, Beltway Coffee Company. I love Beltway Coffee for many reasons, and my kids do too!IMG_7089

The indoor playground is genius. It has air conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter and you won’t get wet on a rainy day. It has four walls and only one door. If you have multiple littles then this is huge. There is no sneaking by you for those little escape artists. Do you have one of those? I have two, and they are partners in crime! When we go play, I can relax knowing that they are completely confined within a room. I typically like to position myself near the door on the floor of the playroom or at a table right outside the door. The playroom is fairly sound-proof, so there are no worries about disturbing others at the coffee shop. The playset is one of those padded maze like structures where they kids climb up, and the majority of the structure is located on a second tier. The only downfall to this is sometimes it gets hard to police the behavior when they are so far out of reach. Don’t get me wrong, I err on the side of letting kids be kids, but sometimes kids do play rough!

Now, bear with me, I’m just going to point out the obvious here. I can have a playdate and drink coffee with my girlfriends, all while my kids play, without ever having to clean my house! When the playdate is over, there is no post clean-up either! This is my favorite kind of playdate! I also love the neutral territory. There are no worries about fighting over “my” toys, not that my kids ever do that!

Let’s move on to the coffee. It’s delicious. My favorite so far is the lavender latte. I’m a big-time tea connoisseur, and they can fix you a perfect cup. I’m certainly not a coffee expert, but if you are, make sure you read this post. The baristas are always friendly and smiling, and it looks like a fabulous place to work.

Did you know that 100% of their profits go towards missions? I love the idea that every time I buy a cup, I’m doing my small part to help support a great cause. Their entire mission is purposeful coffee. Local Key City Coffee can also be found on their shelves for purchase. A variety of juice and snacks are also available for the kids.

If you need a place to party, Beltway Coffee Company facility is available to rent on Saturdays. This includes full access to the play area, a full pot of coffee, and a barista for further specialty drink orders. They will set up tables for the party, and they welcome outside food and drinks, all for $50 an hour. Yes, you read that right! Remember what I said earlier about clean-up? That same principle applies here! You can have a fun party and skip the cleaning!

All right, we’ve established the perks of Beltway Coffee Company: playground and coffee all in a controlled environment. It’s just hard to beat! I forgot to mention that they have free WIFI too! If you are a regular, like me, then you hopefully found yourself nodding your head in agreement!  If you haven’t checked it out yet, then now is the time! Head on over and let them know we sent you!

If you would like to see a lineup of local events for this week, you can head to my personal blog, The Butlers’ Quarters.
